Asa Toney led four Maryville men's basketball players in double figures with 15 points as the Saints shot 58.2 percent to glide to an 82-60 road victory at Lincoln Friday evening. The senior guard also led the team with six rebounds to go along with five assists. Jamel Johnson recorded a career-high 13 points while hitting all five of his shots. Armon Provo hit 5-of-7 shots en route to 12 points, and Trae Pemberton added 11.

The Saints were down 5-4 before scoring 10 straight to grab the lead. Johnson scored inside to push the Saints ahead, and Harrison DuPont hit a jumper. Johnson sank two free throws and powered up for a layup on the next trip. Another bucket by DuPont capped the run for a 14-5 lead. Lincoln chipped away at the led but a hoop by Melvin Turner built Maryville's biggest lead of the half at 25-15 with eight minutes left. Lincoln trimmed the deficit to one but Derek Deter hit a 3-pointer in the final minute of the first half, and the Saints settled for a 34-30 cushion at the break.

The Saints hung onto a single-digit lead until pulling away midway through the second half. Up 52-48 at the 12:26 mark, Pemberton hit a trey to spark a 9-0 burst to take control. Toney sank two from the free-throw stripe, and Provo tacked on a triple. After one free throw by Provo, Maryville held a 61-48 lead. The advantage never fell below 11 and grew to as much as much as 23 late in the second half.

Mike Smith led Lincoln with 20 points as the Saints held the Blue Tigers to just 36.4 percent shooting in the second half. The Saints (2-0) are next in action Tuesday, Nov. 19, as they make the short trip to St. Charles to face Lindenwood University.
