Armon Provo and
Asa Toney tallied 27 and 20 points, respectively, as the Maryville men's basketball team sprinted past Missouri Baptist Tuesday evening in a game played at the Carl and Deloris Petty Sports and Recreation Center. The duo hit a combined 17 of 23 shots from the field as the Saints posted a 57.1 percent shooting percentage.

The Saints held a 10-8 lead before Provo had a three-point play to spark a 15-0 run. On the next Maryville possession, the junior nailed a 3-pointer and Toney added a jumper. Provo scored the next five points on a drive to the basket and a trey, before Toney's layup handed the Saints a 25-8 lead. The Spartans scored to cut the gap to 25-10 with 8:55 left in the half but the Maryville defense took over.

The Saints did not allow a point until just 33 seconds remained before intermission. During that span, Maryville reeled off 23 straight points to build a 48-10 advantage. The Spartans finally sank two free throws as Maryville settled for a 48-12 lead at the break. The Saints blazed the nets at a 75.0 percent clip (18-of-24), while holding Missouri Baptist to just a 16.7 team shooting percentage (4-of-24).

In the second half, the Maryville lead never dipped below 28 points as the Saints improved to 5-3 on the season. The Spartans remain winless on the year and dropped to 0-9. Provo hit 6-of-7 shots from 3-point range and all five free throws en route to his 27 points. In addition to his 20 points, Toney pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
Harrison DuPont added 12 points for the Saints. Logan Quinn was the only Missouri Baptist player in double figures and finished with 12 points.

The Saints play their final game of the 2013 calendar year Saturday, Dec. 21, when they host Cedarville for a 3 p.m. game at Moloney Arena.
