Saints Stay on the Road with Games at Missouri S&T and Drury

THIS WEEK
The Maryville women’s basketball squad (11-8, 7-4 Great Lakes Valley Conference) closes out a three-game road swing with two contests this week. Maryville faces Missouri S&T Thursday, Feb. 7, and plays at Drury Saturday, Feb. 9.
 
ABOUT MISSOURI S&T
The Miners are one game ahead of the Saints in GLVC West Division with an 8-3 record and are 12-7 overall. Hailee Parks is tenth in the league with a 14.7 scoring average, fourth in rebounding at 8.2, and tied for the lead in field goal percentage at 54.1. Kyesha Hall is third in the conference with 2.4 steals per game. Three-point threat Toni Knar has made 44 3-pointers and is shooting 40.4 percent from beyond the arc. The Saints won the first meeting 56-39 in St. Louis Jan. 26.

ABOUT DRURY
The Panthers are 9-10 overall, 3-8 in the GLVC. The duo of Katie Pritchard and Bethanie Funderburk is averaging 15.3 ppg and 14.9 ppg, respectively. Funderburk hits 86.6 percent from the line and is at 97.6 percent in GLVC play. Abby Bracker leads Drury with 6.4 rebounds per game. Drury leads the league in free throw shooting at 78.4 percent. Maryville claimed the first game by a 65-53 score Jan. 24, at Moloney Arena.

LAST WEEK
Abby Duethman scored 20 points and hauled down 14 rebounds to pace the Saints by Illinois Springfield 61-45. Brittnye McSparron and Shelby Miller both scored 12 points apiece but the Saints saw their four-game winning streak end in a 68-56 loss at Quincy.

MORE ON MARYVILLE
Senior forward Abby Duethman is nearly averaging a double-double and leads the league in scoring 17.4 ppg and rebounding (9.8 rpg). Brittnye McSparron is second on the team with 11.2 ppg, and GLVC Freshman of the Year and GLVC Tournament MVP sophomore guard Shelby Miller has hit 34 3-pointers and is averaging 9.8 ppg The Saints are second in the league in turnover margin at +4.95.
 
CLEANING THE GLASS
Abby Duethman has moved into second place on the all-time rebounding list with 602. She is just 15 boards away from breaking the school record of 616 held by Julie Kellogg which has stood since 1987.
 
DOUBLE THE FUN
Abby Duethman ranks 18th in the country with nine double-doubles this season. She is 34th in the country in rebounding (9.8) and 36th in scoring (17.4)

LOOKING AHEAD
The Saints return home Thursday, Feb. 14, and host Rockhurst for their annual “Think Pink” night in which they will don pink jerseys in honor of breast cancer awareness. Maryville hosts William Jewell Saturday, Feb. 16.
