The Saints carried the early play and earned a corner kick in the first five minutes of the game.
Zach Klipsch tested Lions keeper Fermin Hughes but the score remained 0-0. However, the game turned in less than one minute as the Lions struck twice. Aris Nukic scored at the 17:29 mark to put Lindenwood ahead, and Andre Hayne doubled the Lion lead at 18:20. The Saints reached halftime down by that 2-0 score.
Maryville again earned an early corner kick in the second half, but the Saints were turned away again. A few pushes forward garnered two more corner kicks but the Lions kept the Saints off the scoreboard. Maryville had six corners to four for Lindenwood, but the Lions launched 19 shots at the Saints goal. The Saints finished with six shots in the game.
The Saints are 0-1, while the Lions are now 3-0. Maryville returns to play Friday as it opens Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Truman State.
