Matt Baker Earns NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

Former Maryville University wrestling National Champion and All-American Matt Baker was one of 174 winners of the 2014 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship program. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are at least in their final year of athletics competition.
 
Baker, who hails from Prairie Village, Kan., won Maryville's first ever national championship in Division II in 2013. He claimed the wrestling title at 197 pounds with a sterling 40-1 record and was the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the class. Baker was a two-time All-American on the mat and a four-time Academic All-American as selected by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. In addition, he was a CoSIDA first-team Academic All-American, was named the Maryville University Male Student-Athlete of the Year and won the 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Sportsmanship award.
 
The one-time non-renewable scholarships of $7,500 are awarded three times a year. Each Sports season, there are 29 scholarships available for men and 29 scholarships for women for use in an accredited graduate program.
