Larson, Ritter Take Eighth at NCAA DII Nationals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Maryville Wrestling's time in Sioux Falls, S.D., at the NCAA Division II National Championships has come to an end. The Saints finished with a pair of All-Americans in Cole Ritter (174 lbs) and Jeremiah Larson (197 lbs), with both placing eighth at the tournament.

DAY 2
Ritter's third match in the consolation bracket saw him fall 2-0 after giving up an escape and the riding time point, sending him to the seventh-place match. Against Drake Hayward of Minnesota State, Ritter surrendered a pair of takedowns and fell 8-1, ending his tournament 2-3 while earning his third All-American honor.

It was a similar story for Larson on day two, as he dropped his first match of the day 7-2 to Jackson Kinsella of Nebraska Kearney. A last-second takedown by Marvelous Rutledge of Lander proved to be the difference in the seventh-place match.

Ritter ends his career as a three-time All-American, while Larson rounds out his five years with a regional title and an All-American honor in his final season.

DAY 1
Jeremiah Larson and Cole Ritter are NCAA Division II All-Americans.

The pair both overcame first-round losses, winning two matches in the consolation bracket to earn their All-American honors. For Ritter, he becomes a three-time All-American, the first in program history to accomplish the feat while also owning a national title. It marks the first All-American honor for Larson.

Also competing for the Saints was Nick Zamora, who fell just short of All-American status after dropping his match in the blood round.

A preliminary match from Larson was the lone highlight of the first session for the Saints. Crafty sprawling from the redshirt senior proved key in his win over Belmont Abbey's Caleb Moore, as Larson pulled away for a 12-6 decision.

From there, it was a struggle for Maryville, as Ritter, Zamora and Larson all fell in the first round of the championship bracket.

Zamora was first up in the consolations, earning a 7-6 decision by using excellent presence on top to secure the deciding riding time point.

At 174, Ritter snagged a quick fall in the first period of his opening consolation match, and a forfeit in the blood round secured his All-American honors.

Larson remained calm and controlled in his first consolation match, using a single takedown to defeat King's David Bertrand, an opponent he entered Sioux Falls tied 1-1 against on the season. Early offense proved key in Larson's final match of the day, as he secured a 10-4 win to earn a spot on Saturday and his first career All-American nod.
