Seniors Armon Provo and Trae Pemberton scored 21 points apiece to boost the Maryville men's basketball team to an 82-58 victory over Lincoln in the Saints home opener in Moloney Arena. The backcourt tandem combined to hit 17-of-29 shots as the Saints shot 53.4 percent (31-of-58) from the field.

Holding a 12-10 lead, the Saint scored eight straight points to open a double-digit edge. Derek Deters drilled a deep 3-pointer to start the run. Pemberton knocked down a trey and followed with a driving layup for a 20-10 advantage. Maryville's margin was still 27-18 with just over five minutes to play before closing the half on a 16-5 burst.

Josh Montague sank two free throws and threw down a dunk. After the Blue Tigers scored on a layup, the Saints answered with seven straight. Pemberton drilled a 3-pointer, Provo scored on a layup, and Deters' layup pushed the Saints to a 38-20 lead. Late in the half, Provo scored on the inside, and Deters hit a 3-pointer in the corner at the buzzer for a 43-23 lead at intermission.

The Saints maintained a lead of at least 16 points midway through the second half before icing the game with an 11-0 outburst.  Up 63-46, Deters grabbed a long defensive board and took the ball in for a hoop, and Damyan Stoyanov had a tip-in. Pemberton scored inside and completed the three-point play and tacked on another basket. Montague punctuated the run with another high-flying dunk for a 74-46 lead with seven minutes to play for the biggest lead of the night.

Montague finished with 13 points and five boards, while Deters added 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Evan Booker pulled down seven rebounds to pace the Saints. Mike Smith led Lincoln (1-2) with 18 points. The Saints took care of the ball and committed just seven turnovers while handing out 17 assists.

The Saints improve to 2-1 on the season and hit the road to play at Southwest Baptist Saturday, Nov. 22.
