Reinitz Has Goal and Assist in 2-2 Tie with #13 Lindenwood

Box Score Maryland Heights, Mo. - Gus Reinitz scored a goal and assisted on another as the Maryville men's soccer team battled No. 13 Lindenwood to a 2-2 tie in a game played at the Scott Gallagher Fields in Maryland Heights, Mo., Wednesday afternoon. Both teams remain undefeated on the season with matching 1-0-2 records.

The Saints grabbed the early lead about 15 minutes into the game when Reinitz tracked down a ball in the left corner. He lofted a cross to Luke Gilsinger who converted into the left side of the net for a 1-0 Saints lead. Lindenwood looked for the equalizer and finally broke through with approximately 22 minutes left to play in the second half. Mitchell Hunt gathered in a pass from Mihajlo Petrovic and slid the shot into the Maryville goal for a 1-1 tie.

The Saints answered late in the contest when Reinitz recovered an errant Lindenwood pass, spun to his left and rifled a hard, low shot just inside the right post for a 2-1 lead with about five minutes to go. However, the Lions drew even two minutes later when Alegandro Da Silva hit a high shot that the wind pushed into the Saints' net for a 2-2 tie.

After a scoreless first overtime session, Ryan Butchart nearly won the game for Maryville with five minutes to go but his shot was turned aside by LU keeper Andrew Hamerlinck. In the waning moments of double OT, Lance Kohner collected a ball in the middle of the Lion defense and unleashed a low shot, but Hamerlinck collected the shot to preserve the 2-2 tie.

The Saints are back in action Friday, Sept. 12, when they open Great Lakes Valley Conference play against McKendree at 2:30 pm. The game is "Fill the Hill" day and free WhichWich sandwiches and drinks will be given to Saints supporters.
