Neither team generated good scoring chances early until
Gus Reinitz had a strong shot blocked by the BU defense. A few minutes later,
Lance Kohler put a shot on goal that was turned away by Knights keeper Tommy Hebert. Bellarmine had a good opportunity late in the first half but Starr made the save to keep the game scoreless at halftime.

In the 70th minute,
Henry Wynd launched a curving shot that was turned aside by Hebert. The Saints pressed for the winner later in the second half and had two corner kicks but were unable to produce the game-winning score. The game moved into the first overtime session, and BU sprung Kari Qualah for a breakaway. Starr came out to cut down the angle and made a sprawling save to deny the Knights a winner. Reinitz had a header on goal before Hebert collected the ball on another save.

The Knights had three good scoring chances in the second overtime session, and Starr denied BU on each occasion.
Bogi Atanasov had Maryville's best opportunity in the second OT but was stopped by Hebert, who had four saves in the game. Starr finished with five saves to post Maryville's shutout.

The Saints now stand at 1-1-3 overall, 0-1-1 in the GLVC. The Knights are 2-2-1 overall, 0-1-1 in the conference. Maryville is back on the pitch Friday, Sept. 19, as they take to the road at Illinois Springfield.
