Box Score Wichita, Kan. - The Maryville men's soccer team stayed unbeaten on the season as they battled to a scoreless draw at Newman Sunday afternoon in Wichita, Kan. The Saints, who defeated Southwest Baptist on the road in the opener, are 1-0-1 on the season and host nationally ranked Lindenwood Wednesday in the home opener.
Lance Kohler had two early scoring chances for the Saints but narrowly missed the mark. The host Jets had two shots on goal late in the first half but the Saints defense kept the game scoreless.
Ryan Butchart made a bid for his third goal of the season but Newman keeper Steven Hamersky made the save. The Jets looked for the first goal but Maryville goalie
Eddie Starr kept the home squad off the scoreboard. Each team had a late chance in regulation, and Starr was forced into a save in the final minute, but the game moved to overtime.
The Saints looked for the lead on attempts by Butchart and
Bret Harvestine but were denied by Hamersky. Starr did the same to the Jets and the tilt went to a second OT session. Maryville carried the play in the final period with three shots, and Gus Reinitz's final shot was saved with two minutes remaining. Starr made four saves to post his first clean sheet of the season as the game ended at 0-0.
