The Maryville women's basketball team's four-game home winning streak came to an end as Quincy escaped from Moloney Arena with a 70-63 victory over the Saints Thursday in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

The Hawks scored nine of the first 11 points of the game to grab the early lead. Shelby Miller hit a layup, and Jordynn Martin sank two free throws as the Saints cut the gap to 9-6. However, Quincy scored six straight during a 12-2 run to lead by as many as 12. The Saints were still trailing 23-12 before answering with a 10-4 run, capped by Danie Shafer's 3-pointer. Miller made two free throws as the Saints got as close as 29-24 before the Hawks led at halftime 37-31.

Rita Flynn scored on a jumper, and Miller made a jumper and a 3-pointer to give the Saints their first lead of the day at 38-37. Jade Rogers scored in traffic as the Saints went ahead 40-37 three minutes into the second half. She hit one free throw for a 41-40 lead but that would prove to be Maryville's last advantage of the night. QU hit a 3-pointer, and Rogers tied the game at 43-43 at the 16:19 mark. The Hawks scored nine straight points to surge ahead.

The Saints made a run when Shafer made one free throw, and Ali Ringering hit a short shot. Miller splashed in a 3-pointer to pull Maryville to 56-53 with just under 11 minutes to go. The defenses took over as neither team scored much over the next five minutes but QU inched out to a nine point lead. The Saints got as close as five on a Martin jumper in the waning moments.

Miller was the only Maryville player to reach double figures as she finished with a game-high 19 points. Rogers added nine points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Carly Bettencourt and Erin Mennemeyer paced the Hawks (8-6 overall, 3-3 GLVC) with 13 points and eight rebounds apiece.

The Saints slide to 8-6 overall, 2-3 in the GLVC. Maryville is next in action Saturday as they head to Truman State for a 1 p.m. contest.
