Maryville fell victim to a barrage of long-range jumpers by Truman State in the first half and could not bounce back as the Saints fell to the Bulldogs 74-53 on Saturday afternoon at Pershing Arena snapping a two-game winning streak.

The Saints (9-6, 4-2 GLVC) raced out to a early 8-7 lead on a
Trae Pemberton 3-pointer with just over fifteen minutes to go in the first half, but Truman State would answer with a 19-2 run over the next seven minutes to take a 27 -10 lead with 8:23 to go in the half. During that stretch, the Bulldogs hit six jumpers from beyond the arc and ended the half shooting 10-19 from 3-point range to take a 40-25 lead to the halftime locker room.

The second half did not start any better for Maryville as the Bulldogs would come out and hold the Saints scoreless for the first five minutes and 14 seconds to take a commanding 51-25 lead before Pemberton ended the 11-0 run with a trey from the top of the key.Â

Redshirt freshman
Forrester Sims made the most of his first career start with a career-high 13 points. Pemberton ended the day with 10 markers, and
Jeff Leeson also added a career high with seven points.Â
Josh Montague continued his strong play under the basket by tying his season-high with eight rebounds.

Truman State (12-5, 4-3 GLVC) was led by St. Louis-native Seth Jackson with 21 points while Reed Mells and Issac Gardner added 15 and 14 points, respectfully, to aid in the victory.

The Saints return home to the friendly confines of Simon Center this coming Monday to do battle with cross-town rival University of Missouri-St. Louis in a 7:30 p.m. tip.
