Trae Pemberton, the Maryville men's basketball team fell behind Drury early on and was never able to recover as the Panthers posted a 71-54 win at Moloney Arena. With the win, Drury stays tied for the lead in the Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division.
Â
Drury scored the first seven points of the game before Pemberton scored back-to-back baskets. The Panthers used an 11-4 run to push their edge to double digits. The Saints were still down 10 before a layup by
Saikou Jallow and a jumper by
Armon Provo cut the deficit to 20-14. Drury settled for a 45-27 lead at halftime. Maryville shot 52.4 percent in the first half but hurt themselves with 13 turnovers.
Â
The Saints trailed 48-27 until
Max Mischkulnig hit a tough jumper, and Pemberton rattled in a 3-pointer to bring the deficit to 16. The Panthers pushed their edge back to 20 points before the Saints made a brief run. Provo and
Grant Sims each hit one free throw, and
Damyan Stoyanov grabbed an offensive rebound and had a stick back. Pemberton's two free throws pulled the Saints to 65-51 with more than five minutes to play, but that would be as close as Maryville could get.
Â
Pemberton scored at least 20 points for the sixth time this season but was the only Saint in double figures. The Saints slip to 9-8 overall, 4-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Kameron Bundy led Drury (12-4, 6-2 GLVC) with 22 points.
