After cruising to an 8-3 win in game one, the Maryville softball team narrowly missed out on a doubleheader sweep at Saint Joseph's as the Pumas walked off with a 4-3 victory in 10 innings in the finale Saturday.

In the top of the second, the Saints jumped ahead when
Courtney Ferguson launched a two-run homer. Maryville increased its lead in the next inning when
Sheridon Sprague reached on a fielder's choice and stole second.
Dani Williams' single scored Sprague for a 3-0 advantage. The Pumas recorded back-to-back doubles to get on the scoreboard but the Saints roared back with four runs in the fifth.
Ashley Marks reached on an error, and
Krystal Rock followed with a base hit. Sprague picked up an RBI when her grounder was misplayed for a Maryville run.
Wendy Macias drilled a three-run homer as the Saints jumped ahead 7-1. SJC pulled back two runs but the Saints added an insurance run in the seventh on Sprague's RBI single. Macias went the distance to pick up her ninth win of the season.

Game two was a scoreless duel as Williams limited the Pumas to just one hit over 6-2/3 innings of work. However, the Saints were unable to push across a run as both defenses hung zeros on the scoreboard. Maryville had its chances and recorded six hits in the first seven innings. The Pumas got a runner to third in the bottom of the seventh but the Saints escaped to push the game to extra innings. Neither team scored in the eighth or ninth to set up a dramatic 10th frame. In the top of the tenth, Marks tripled and scored on Rock's sac fly for the first run of the game. Sprague doubled and scored on Williams' RBI single. Later, Williams tallied on a SJC error for a 3-0 advantage. Unfortunately, the Pumas rallied with four runs in the bottom of the innings. With the bases loaded, SJC scored on a hit batter. A double tied the game at 3-3 to set up the game-winning scene for the Pumas. Ashley Whitaker singled back up the middle for the game winner for Saint Joseph's and a dramatic 4-3 rally.

The Saints see their record move to 15-28 overall, 9-17 in the GLVC. The Pumas are now 17-21 overall, 10-14 in the conference. Maryville is back home Tuesday, April 21, when it hosts Blackburn for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
