Rolla, Mo. - In its final match of the 2016 season, the Maryville volleyball team won set one before host Missouri S&T rallied for a four set victory Saturday afternoon. The Miners prevailed by set scores of 21-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-19.

The Saints led set one 6-5 before taking control with four straight points.
Kara Wright ignited the run with a kill, and the Miners committed an error.
Cassidy Arndt notched a kill, and another S&T miscue boosted the Saints to a 10-5 advantage.
Ashley Selman and Arndt combined on a block before a hitting error by S&T pushed the Saints ahead 12-6. Another kill by Wright kept the Saints up by six at 17-11. Maryville maintained a lead at 22-17 on a
Makayla Campbell service ace. The Saints claimed the opening set on a kill by
Allison Lakin at 25-21.

Maryville grabbed the early lead in set two and still led 8-6 after an
Emma Basler kill. The Miners took the lead using a 5-0 burst. Basler scored for the Saints, and a Lakin finish pulled the Saints to 12-10. Missouri S&T used a late 5-0 run to even up the match at 1-1.

Arndt's kill handed the Saints a 3-2 advantage in set three but the Miners inched ahead on the strength of a 6-1 run. Maryville made a charge with three consecutive points. A block by Selman and
Katie Verseman started the run, and Lakin and Selman followed with kills to trim the deficit to 12-8. The Saints still only were down four before Missouri S&T tallied four straight points to go up 2-1.

The Saints stormed out to an early 4-1 lead capped by a kill by Lakin. The Miners rallied to take the lead before the team started trading the lead. Maryville went up 9-8 after a Missouri S&T error but the hosts answered with three straight. The Saints went on a 3-0 run and closed to within one at 14-13 on a Lakin kill. However, the Miners (11-19 overall, 6-12 GLVC) tallied four of the next five points and kept the Saints at bay the remainder of the set.

Lakin pounded down 17 kills, one short of her season high, to lead the Maryville attack. Selman added 10 kills and four blocks. Campbell paced the defensive efforts with 16 digs.
Kayla Buxton and
Michelle Escue both handed out 18 assists on the day. The Saints finish the season 4-27 overall, 2-16 in the GLVC.
