Streaking Hillsdale Takes Two from Saints

St. Charles, Mo. - The Maryville baseball team dropped a pair of games to streaking Hillsdale College on a cloudy and misty Saturday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo. The Chargers won their ninth straight game by downing the Saints 3-2 and 13-5. The teams will play two more games Sunday starting at Noon.

In game one, the Saints pushed across an unearned run in the bottom of the first. Hillsdale tied the game in the top of the fourth and went ahead on a double in the sixth inning. The Chargers tacked on a key unearned run in the seventh inning before the Saints tried to rally late. Yoonjae Nam doubled to right field and took third on a ground out. He scored after an error by Hillsdale but the Saints were unable to get the tying run into scoring position. Steven Reynolds took the tough loss as he gave up just two earned runs.

Hillsdale scored two in the top of the first in game two but the Saints responded with five in the home half. Cody Klotz walked and took third on an error by the Chargers. With two aboard, Zach Ruckman pulled a single through the right side of the infield to tie the game at 2-2. Nam singled, and Mitch Carriger had an infield single to push the Saints ahead 3-2. After a sac bunt put Nam and Carriger into scoring position, they both scored on a wild pitch that bounced away for a 5-2 lead. However, the Chargers scored five runs over the next three innings to jump into the lead 7-5 after four innings. The Saints were still down two but Hillsdale put the game away with five runs in the top of the sixth.

The Saints are now 7-9 on the season, while Hillsdale improves to 11-2.
