St. Charles, Mo. - The Maryville softball team swept a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader from visiting Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday afternoon in St. Charles, Mo. The Saints posted a 5-4 win in game one and closed the day with a 7-5 triumph in the finale. Wendy Macias was the winning pitcher in both games.

In game one,
Ashley Marks and
Courtney Ferguson walked, and
Casey Ward singled in the first run.
Bri Livingston and
Sydney Halleen made it three straight RBI singles as the Saints grabbed a 3-0 lead. In the second inning, Marks reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. After Maryville loaded the bases, Ward popped a sac fly to bring Marks home for a 4-0 advantage. The Rangers responded with four runs in the top of the third before the Saints answered with the winning run. Leading off the bottom of third,
Alex Flasch launched a solo blast, her fourth this season, for the game winner. The game remained stuck at 5-4 and UWP nearly tied the game in the top of the seventh. The Rangers got a runner to third but Macias notched a strikeout to end the contest. Macias was the victor and surrendered one hit in relief.

The second game saw each team score four runs apiece before the Saints used single tallies late to notch the sweep. In the second, Flasch drilled a two-run single to start the Maryville rally. Later, she scored on an error by UWP. Marks doubled
Krystal Rock home for a 4-0 advantage. However, the Rangers came right back to tie the game with four runs in the top of the third. Maryville inched back ahead when
Hope Miller singled home
Nikki Taylor with what would prove to be the game-winning run. The Saints added onto their lead in the fourth when Courtney Ferguson singled, stole second and scored on Taylor's RBI single. Maryville iced the game with another run in the fifth when Livingston singled, swiped second and dashed home on Rock's RBI single. Macias allowed just two hits over the final four innings to record the win.

The Saints are now 11-3 overall, 3-1 in the GLVC. The Saints are next in action Tuesday, March 15, when they play at St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
