Saints Sweep Union 5-3 and 14-2 in Tennessee

Jackson, Tenn. - In game one at Union University, Wendy Macias pitched 5-2/3 innings of no-hit softball before Maryville settled for a 5-3 victory. The Saints completed the doubleheader sweep as they broke out for a season high in runs with a 14-2 win in game two.

Ashley Marks singled to start the top of the third and moved to second on a Courtney Ferguson single. After a Bri Livingston single, Sheridon Sprague slashed an RBI single to center for a 1-0 lead. The Saints tallied three runs in the top of the fifth. After a hit by Ferguson and a walk by Nikki Taylor, Alex Flasch drilled an RBI double to left for a 2-0 edge. Macias hit a single to left that scored Flasch for a three-run lead. A Union miscue brought Krystal Rock home for a 4-0 lead. Macias retired the first two outs in the bottom of the sixth before Wendy Christian singled to left center for Union's first hit. The Lady Bulldogs broke through for two runs in the sixth. The Saints tallied an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Rock scored on Macias' RBI single to center for a 5-2 edge. Union scored one run in its final at bat but the Saints shut the door.

Union snared the early lead with single runs in the first two innings but the Saints responded with four runs in the top of the third. Taylor bashed a two-run homer to tie the game, and Rock hit a two-run double to give Maryville a 4-2 lead. The Saints built a 6-2 lead with via an RBI double by Taylor, and Rock struck again with an RBI single. The Saints salted the game away via run rule with eight runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth. Taylor picked up the win in the circle and had three hits and five RBIs.

The Saints continue on their best start in program history and are 14-3 overall. Union is 5-25 on the season.

Maryville closes out its swing through Tennessee as it faces Christian Brothers University Thursday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
