St. Charles, Mo. -
Wendy Macias twirled the first no-hitter by a Maryville pitcher since April 4, 2009, as the Saints extended the second longest winning streak in program history to 11 with a 4-0 win over Rockhurst. In the finale, the Hawks finally ended the long Saints winning streak with a 3-1 decision.
Â
After a scoreless first two innings, the Saints started the third frame with consecutive singles by
Krystal Rock,
Courtney Ferguson, and
Ashley Marks to load the bases for Nikki Taylor, who would drill a double down the left field line to give Maryville a 3-0 lead. After a Macias walk,
Bri Livingston would drive
Nikki Taylor in with another double down the left field line to give the Saints a 4-0 lead after three innings.
Â
Macias faced only two more than the minimum while striking out four Hawks in twirling her first collegiate no-hitter and running her record on the season to a perfect 11-0, while Livingston highlighted the offense going 3-of-3 at the plate. Macias' no-hitter is the sixth in program history.
Â
In game two, the Hawks pushed across a run in the top of the second and added two unearned runs in the top of the fourth. The Saints were held to one hit through five innings before breaking through in the sixth. Ferguson singled with Marks following with a base hit. Taylor plated the run as the Saints cut the gap to 3-1. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Rock singled and
Syd Tockman was hit by a pitch to put two runners aboard. A groundout put the potential game-tying run at second base. However, Rockhurst induced a grounder to end the contest and Maryville's long winning streak.
Â
The Saints are now 20-4 overall, 8-2 in the GLVC. The Hawks stand at 10-18 overall, 3-7 in the league. Maryville host William Jewell Saturday in a Noon doubleheader held at Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex.
