Normandy, Mo. - The Maryville softball team traveled to No. 6 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis Tuesday afternoon. After dropping game one 5-1, the Saints won game two 3-0, to snap the Tritons' nine-game winning streak. The victory is the highest-ranked opponent Maryville has defeated in the Division II era, and No. 6 UMSL was the highest-ranked team the Saints have beaten since downing No. 3 Washington University during the 2004 season.
Nikki Taylor set a Maryville record for strikeouts in a game with 12, topping the previous mark of 11 set by Heidi Patton against MacMurry March 26, 2005.
Â
In game one, the Saints jumped ahead in the third inning. Facing All-American Hannah Perryman,
Krystal Rock fouled off numerous pitches before launching a solo home run to left center for a 1-0 lead. However, the Tritons answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third and added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to rally for the win. The Saints outhit the Tritons 5-3 but two of UMSL's hits were homers.

The Saints bounced back in game two to earn the split of the doubleheader. In the top of the second,
Bri Livingston led off with a single and took second after a
Courtney Ferguson sac bunt.
Alex Flasch dropped an RBI single inside the line in right to give the Saints a 1-0 edge.
Casey Ward followed with an RBI double off the wall in left as Maryville doubled its lead. The Saints tacked on an insurance run in the fifth. Ward lashed her second double of the game and took third on
Hope Miller's sac bunt.
Ashley Marks plated Ward with an RBI single as the Saints went ahead 3-0. Taylor blanked the Triton attack and held UMSL to just four hits to pick up the win in the circle.
Â
The Saints are now 23-5 on the season, 11-3 in the GLVC, while the Tritons stand at 34-3, 12-2 in the league. Maryville is next in action Saturday when it hosts Truman State for a Noon doubleheader at Lindenwood University.
