Softball Saints Tie Record for Wins in a Season with 31

Springfield, Mo. - With a 3-1 win in game two at Drury, the Maryville softball team tied the single-season school record for wins at 31. The victory total matches the 31 triumphs first set by the 2000 team. Drury won the first game of the doubleheader by a 3-1 score in Springfield, Mo.

In the first inning, the Panthers pushed across a run to grab an early 1-0 lead. Neither team scored over the next four innings before the Saints tied the score with a run in the top of the sixth. Ashley Marks walked and took second on a ground out. Nikki Taylor singled to push Marks to third. Wendy Macias laced an RBI single left to forge a 1-1 tie. However, an RBI single and a run-producing triple gave the Panthers the decisive runs in the 3-1 win.

Maryville broke open a scoreless game two in the top of the third when Courtney Ferguson singled, and Taylor bashed a two-run homer to left for a 2-0 lead. Alex Flasch followed with a single and stole second. Bri Livingston drilled an RBI single to left as the Saints built a three-run lead. Drury finally broke through in the seventh inning but Taylor did not surrender another score as the Saints notched their record-tying win. The victory is the 12th on the season for Taylor.

Maryville is now 31-7 overall, 17-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers stand at 12-28 overall, 6-16 in the GLVC. The Saints have their first chance to break the single-season wins record Tuesday when they host Lincoln for a doubleheader Tuesday, April 12, at 4 p.m.
