Box Score St. Louis – Pontus Gitselov drilled a shot into the low right corner of the goal early into the first overtime session to give the Maryville men's soccer team a 3-2 win over William Jewell in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Maryville Field on Friday afternoon.
 
 Maryville wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as Henry Wynd came up from his defensive position to head in a shot inside the far left post from Sander Heieren to give the Saints a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute. The goal was Wynd's first of the year. Helmut Florencia staked the Saints to a 2-0 lead after he converted a Cardinals turnover into his third goal on the year in the seventh minute. The Saints outshot William Jewell 8-2 in the first 45 minutes.
 
The Saints continued to apply pressure on the William Jewell defense throughout the half, but the Cardinals finally broke through in the 83rd minute. Aaron Froehlich found the upper left corner of the goal to cut the Saints lead to 2-1. Brett Jackson nailed a header into the upper left corner in the 86th minute as William Jewell tied the game 2-2. Neither team scored in the closing minutes as the game moved into overtime.
 
Gitselov scored his fourth goal of the year in the 94th minute as he was able take a Cardinals (2-4, 2-3 GLVC) turnover and drill a hard shot into the corner to give the Saints the win.
 
Maryville (4-3, 1-3 GLVC) returns to Maryville Field on Sunday, September 25 as the Saints take on Rockhurst. Start time is set for 2:30 p.m.
