The Maryville volleyball team battled to the end and earned a match point but Missouri S&T scored the final three points of the match to edge the Saints 3-2. The Miners downed the Saints 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 16-14.

The Miners scored the first point of set five but the Saints roared back with five straight points.
Allison Lakin and
Kara Wright's block capped the run for a 5-1 lead. The Saints went up 7-4 on a Lakin kill before the Miners tallied four in a row. Another block by Lakin and Wright forged an 8-8 tie. The teams traded points until the Miners led 13-12. After a Missouri S&T miscue,
Zoe Zeiter put down a kill for match point. However, the Miners scored on two kills and an ace to win the match.

Lakin led the Saints with 17 kills and completed a double-double with 12 digs. Wright and
Ashley Selman both finished with 13 kills apiece.
Makayla Campbell notched 19 digs, while
Kayla Buxton directed the offense with a season-best 30 assists and had a double-double on 10 digs. Carson Talley paced the Miners with 17 kills.

The Saints slip to 2-12 overall, 1-4 in the GLVC. The Miners improve to 5-8 overall, 2-3 in the league. Maryville hosts Drury Saturday, Oct. 1, in a 3 p.m. contest at Moloney Arena.
