St. Louis - The Maryville men's basketball team was looking to extend its winning streak to five games with a game against Indianapolis but the Greyhounds held off a big rally for a 69-59 win to snap the Saints run.
Â
Down 40-26 at intermission, the Saints opened the second half on an 11-0 run to roar back into the game.
Karson King started the run with a 3-pointer, and
Evan Booker powered inside for a layup and three-point play. Booker then knocked down a wing 3-pointer, and a
Forrester Sims jumper drew the Saints to 40-37. The Maryville defense kept UIndy off the scoreboard for more than five minutes to get back into the game.
Â
The Greyhounds held a 50-43 lead before a
Jimmy Barton triple and two free throws by
Grant Sims pulled the Saints to 50-48 at the 9:24 mark. However the Saints only managed one field goal over a seven-minute span as the Greyhounds held on to the lead. Booker hit one free throw as the Saints closed to 58-51 with 5:26 but that proved to be the closest Maryville could trim the deficit.
Â
Alex Etherington paced UIndy (5-7, 2-2 GLVC) with 17 points, while Jesse Kempson added 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Forrester Sims hit 8-of-14 shots and led the Saints (7-10 overall, 1-4 GLVC) with 19 points. Booker added 13 points and nine boards, while Anthony Johnson pulled down 10 rebounds.
