Summary
The Maryville women's basketball team was looking to close out a road swing to the Kansas City area with a victory but Rockhurst held on to down the Saints 67-59. Stephanie Sherwood notched a double-double with 17 points and had a career-high 11 rebounds.
What Happened
The Saints were down 31-19 before Ali Ringering scored a layup to start a 9-0 run. Jordyne Dugger converted inside, and Mary Barton added a bucket. Sherwood sank a jumper and sank a free throw to pull the Saints to 31-28. Rockhurst rallied to take a 34-28 lead at the break.
Maryville was still down 38-31 but surged ahead on an 8-0 burst. Ringering had back-to-back three-point plays, and Amanda Ponce's jumper was good for a 39-38 lead. Rockhurst answered and grabbed a 47-42 edge heading to the fourth. Midway through the final quarter, Kayla Steward drilled a 3-pointer to pull the Saints to 53-52. Still down by eight, Ellen Foster scored on a layup, and Ringering drilled a 3-pointer but the Saints never were able to draw even.
