Jackson, Tenn. - To close out its season-opening trip in Jackson, Tenn., the Maryville softball team shut out Tusculum 3-0 but was edged 4-2 by host Union University.

Against Tusculum, the Saints scored the only run they would need in the top of the third.
Courtney Ferguson doubled to left center, and
Sydney Halleen singled her in for a 1-0 lead. The Saints tacked on a run in the sixth.
Bri Livingston opened the frame with a double, and look third on
Nikki Taylor's single.
Heather Wernle put down a sac bunt that pushed Taylor to second.
Casey Ward lofted a sac fly to right to bring Livingston home. The Saints sealed the game when
Ashley Marks reached on a miscue and came around to score on Halleen's bunt single for a 3-0 lead. Taylor gave up just four hits to twirl the blanking in the circle.

Versus Union, Maryville jumped ahead 2-0 with two runs in the fourth frame. Livingston was hit by a pitch and scored on
Emily Frankenreite's triple to right. Ward then reached on a sac bunt that plated Frankenreite for a 2-0 lead. Union rallied in the bottom of the sixth. The hosts strung together four hits, three for extra bases, to jump ahead 4-2. The Saints went down in order in the top of the seventh to close out the game.

The Saints are 1-3 on the season and return to campus Saturday Feb. 18, when they host Missouri S&T and Lincoln in nonconference games. The tilts will be played at Weber Field on the University campus.
