Evansville, Ind. – The Maryville women's soccer team gave up a pair of goals early in the second half as Southern Indiana defeated the Saints 2-0 Sunday afternoon in Evansville, Ind. The loss eliminated Maryville from the 2018 Great Lakes Valley Conference Soccer Championships.
What Happened – After the teams played to an even draw after the first 45 minutes of the match, the Screaming Eagles took control. Southern Indiana scored in the 48
th minute from 5-yards out to take a 1-0 lead. USI added an insurance goal six minutes later on goal form 10-yards out to extend the lead to 2-0. The Saints ad a few opportunities in the second half to get on the scoreboard as
Alex Johnson fired a pair of shots that were saved by the Screaming Eagles goalkeeper.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints were outshot 18-12 on the afternoon with seven shots being on goal. Johnson led the way for the Saints with four shots while
Allison Verville had three shots on the afternoon.
