Tiffin, Ohio – The Maryville men's soccer team evened the match midway through the second half but could not hold in overtime as Ohio Valley defeated the Saints 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Soccer Championship held at Pardiso Athletic Center in Tiffin, Ohio.
What Happened – The Fighting Scots opened the scoring with a goal that was chipped in from the left side in the 14th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way until the 65th minute as
Dom Riggio placed a perfect header off a free kick from
Diego Coy to even the match at 1-1. Ohio Valley had an opportunity to take the lead late in the match, but had a goal taken away due to an offsides call. The Fighting Scots took advantage of four straight corner kicks as they converted the last one in the 95th minute with a header into the upper right corner to eliminate the Saints from the post-season.
Inside the Numbers – Ohio Valley outshot the Saints 20-6 on the afternoon with 10 shots being on frame.
Christian Kjaersgaard was credited with seven saves in the contest. The Fighting Scots held a 12-3 advantage in corner kicks.
