Emporia, Kan. – The Maryville softball team earned a split on get away day at the 6-State Classic at Trusler Complex in Emporia, Kan. The Saints defeated Southwest Baptist, 9-1 before having their six-game winning streak snapped by Northeastern State, 7-5.
Game One:
The Bearcats raced out to an early 1-0 lead at the end of the second inning, but the Saints slammed the door on Southwest Baptist by scoring nine runs over the next four innings. After a walk and a hit by pitch to open the third inning,
Sheridon Sprague drilled a single that scored the runs to give Maryville a 2-1 lead.
Bri Livingston then added another run with an RBI single to push the Saints lead to 3-1. The Saints added four runs in the fourth inning with
Jaclyn Pasakarnis providing the fireworks with a three-run blast to stake Maryville to a 7-1 lead. Sprague gave the Saints a pair of insurance runs with another two RBI single in the sixth inning to push the Saints winning streak to six games.

Game Two:
The Saints grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the first as Pasakarnis drove in
Kelsey Martin from second base with a single to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. The River Hawks took control of the game by taking the lead 2-1 in the third and then scoring two runs in each of the final three stanzas to take a 7-1 advantage. Maryville battled back in the home half of the seventh as
Samantha Hausl hit a two RBI single and Livington added a two-run double to left center to pull the Saints to with two runs, but Northeastern State was able to hang on for the win.
