St. Louis – The Maryville University baseball team broke out the offense in the first game of the day, but McKendree University countered in the nightcap as the teams split the first two-games of a weekend series at Weber Field. The Saints won the first game of the day 13-6 on the power of a pair of home runs by
Garrett Taylor, while the Bearcats took game two by a score of 12-2.
Game One:
The Saints grabbed the lead in the second inning as Zach Ruckman reached base on an error and moved to third on a Camden Mericer singled. Ruckman come home on a
Cody Klotz sacrifice fly to deep center field to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. The Saints added to the lead in the second frame as
Brennan Williams drilled a single to right center to score two more runs to give Maryville a 3-0 advantage. Maryville added three runs in the fourth as the Saints took advantage of a Bearcat error and another sacrifice fly to grab a 6-0 advantage. The Bearcats cut into the Maryville lead with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to put the score at 6-3. McKendree continued to battle back as the Bearcats plated three more runs in the sixth inning to cut the Maryville lead to 8-6. But the Saints continued the offensive fireworks in the bottom of the inning as Taylor smashed a three-run homer to give Maryville a 11-6 lead. After scoring a run in the seventh, Taylor drilled his second homer of the day to extend the Saints lead to 13-6.

Game Two:
The Bearcats grabbed an early lead in the top of the first by scoring a pair of runs, but the Saints battled back in the second inning. Ruckman opened the frame with a single and moved to second on a Klotz single to put runners at first and second. Ruckman scored after McKendree issued a pair of free passes that cut the lead to 2-1. After the Bearcats scored a run in the top of the fourth, the Saints returned the favor as Klotz smashed a triple down the right field line and scored on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-2. McKendree seized control of the contest with nine runs over the last two innings of the night to earn their first win of the season.
