Saints Open League Play with a Split at No. 14 Southern Indiana

St. Louis –  The Maryville softball team opened up Great Lakes Valley Conference play as the Saints earned a split with No. 14 University of Southern Indiana at USI Softball Field Saturday afternoon. Alyssa Callans paced the Saints in game one of the day with three RBIs in a 5-3 victory while the Screaming Eagles won the nightcap 3-0. This is the second time this week that the Saints have defeated a team ranked in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25. 
 
Game One:
The Saints broke the game open in the first inning as Alyssa Callans cracked a base's loaded double to center field to score three runs as it gave Maryville an early 3-0 lead. Jaclyn Pasakarnis extended the Maryville lead to 4-0 in the third with her team-high fifth homer of the season. The Screaming Eagles scored a run in the fourth inning and a pair of runs in the fifth inning, but Maryville added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to secure their first league win of the year. Callans earned her sixth win of the season by going the distance in the contest and throwing seven strikeouts.

Game Two: 
Southern Indiana scored runs in the last three innings of play to take a 3-0 lead as the Screaming Eagles held Maryville to only four hits. The Saints were only able to get a runner to second base twice in the contest. Sheridon Sprague suffered her second loss of the season.
