Saints Softball Drops a Pair of GLVC Games to Lewis

St. Louis –  The Maryville softball team dropped a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference games to Lewis University Saturday afternoon at the Lou Brock Complex on the campus of Lindenwood University. The Saints fell behind in the first game of the day and lost 3-0.In the nightcap, Maryville watched their comeback fall short as the Flyers won 4-3.
 
Game One:
After a slow start for both teams over the first two innings, both teams had bases load in the third frame and could not push a run across. The Flyers grabbed the lead for good in the fourth inning with three runs on five hits to grab a 3-0 advantage.  The Saints never could get on track as they had two hits over the last three innings of the contest.

Game Two: 
Maryville raced out to an early lead in the first as Martin opened the frame by drawing a free pass and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After moving to third on a wild pitch, Martin scored on a Jaclyn Pasakarnis single through the left side to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Lewis struck for three runs in the third to take the lead at 3-1, but the Saints continued to battle in the fourth inning as Courtney Ferguson opened the frame with a single and then stole second. Ferguson crossed the plate on a McKenna McCoy single to center to cut the Flyer lead to 3-2. The Saints started the fifth inning with a pair of singles and both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt. Ferguson tied the game a 3-3 with a sacrifice fly to center. Lewis plated a run in the sixth to grab a 4-3 lead, but Maryville had a chance in the home half of the seventh. Samantha Hausl walked, moved to second on a wild pitch and then to third on an error, but did not score as the Flyers forced Ferguson to pop up to end the game.
