Softball Saints Pound Out 20 hits in Split with Union

St. Louis –  The Maryville University softball team used a pair of big innings in the nightcap to salvage a split with Union University in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon at Weber Field. The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the fifth inning to take the first game of the day, 7-4 while the Saints scored six runs in the first and third innings in the second game to earn a 13-4 win in five innings.

Game One:
Hannah Tolley started the Saints off in the home half of the first with a single to right center field and moved to third on a throwing error as Hope Miller dropped a bunt and then moved to second on a stolen base. Sheridon Sprague helped her own cause with an RBI single to score Tolley and Miller scored on a throwing error to give Maryville a 2-0 lead. The Saints added another run in the inning on another throwing error to take a 3-0 advantage. The Saints added to the lead with back-to-back doubles by Courtney Klosinski and Emily Frankenreiter to extend the lead to 4-0 in the second. The Bulldogs take advantage of five hits and an error in the fifth inning to score seven times to take a 7-4 lead. That is all Union needed as they shut down the Saints attack over the last three innings to earn the win.

She scored on a Bri Livingston single to center field to give Maryville a 1-0 lead. Livingston came around and scored on a Samantha Hausl single that gave the Saints a 2-0 advantage. Maryville added four runs in the frame as DJ Aaron-Holman hit a base's loaded single and cleared the bases on a fielding error to take a 6-0 lead. After the Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the top of the second inning, Hausl answered with her fifth homer of the year to give Maryville a 7-2 lead. The Saints offense continued to roll as Alyssa Callans drilled a base's loaded double to right center in the third to extend the Saints lead to 10-2, but they were not done yet as Maryville plated three more runs in the inning to grab a 13-2 lead. Union scored two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the Maryville lead to 13-4, but Callans retired the last five batters of the game to earn her eighth win of the season.
