Alyssa Callans earned a pair of wins as the Maryville University softball team swept Great Lakes Valley Conference foe William Jewell College Friday afternoon at Weber Field. The Saints overcame a two-run deficit to win the opener, 5-2 and then scored a run in the ninth inning to earn a 5-4 win in the nightcap.
Game One:
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run homer to take a 2-0 advantage. The Saints cut into the lead in the home half of the fourth as
Jaclyn Pasakarnis started the frame with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. She then scored on a
Shaina Kmetz single to make the score 2-1.
Samantha Hausl gave the Saints its first lead of the day in the fifth as she drilled a single to left field with bases-loaded to tally two runs that gave the Saints a 3-2 advantage. Maryville added an insurance run off a Cardinals field error to give the Saints a 4-2 lead.
Kelsey Martin kept things going in the sixth as she hit a single to push across
Bri Livingston, who tripled a batter earlier, to make the score 5-2.

Game Two:
Maryville plated a run in the home half of the first as Livingston drilled a double to left field and moved to third on a wild pitch. Callans pushed the run across with a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. The Saints added to the lead in the second as Livingston and Martin each singled and scored as Callans hit her second sacrifice fly of the game to give Maryville a 3-0 lead. The Cardinals cut into the lead with a run in the fourth, but the Saints returned the favor in the bottom of the inning as Pasakarnis earned a free pass to start the frame.
Sheridon Sprague added an RBI double into the gap in right center field which gave Maryville a 4-1 lead. William Jewell countered with two runs in the fifth and a run in the seventh to force extra innings. After a scoreless eighth inning, Livingston drew a one-out walk and moved to second as Callans earned the second free pass of the inning. Hausl ended the game with a single to left field as Livingston scored to give Maryville the sweep.
