St. Louis – The Maryville University softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Great Lakes Valley Conference foe, Truman State Saturday afternoon at Weber Field. The Saints fell in the opening game of the twin-bill, 4-3 and then lost in the nightcap, 5-4 in nine innings.
Game One:
After a quiet first inning, the Bulldogs tallied a run in the second to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Saints answered back in the bottom of the frame.
Jaclyn Pasakarnis got things started with a double down the left field line and scored as
Emily Frankenreiter ripped another double to knot the contest at 1-1. Truman State regained the lead in the top of the third by scoring three times to take a 4-1 advantage. The Saints cut into the lead in the home half of the third as
Kelsey Martin singled and moved up to second on a groundout.
Samantha Hausl brought home Martin with a single to left field to make the score 4-2. The Saints rallied in the seventh as
Courtney Ferguson hit an infield single and moved to second on a throwing error. After moving to third on a groundout, Ferguson scored on a Martin single to cut the lead to 4-3, but Maryville could get no closer as the Bulldogs earned the victory.

Game Two:
The Bulldogs earned an early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 advantage. Maryville cut into the deficit in the third as
Bri Livingston laced a double down the left line and advanced to third on a groundout. Pasakarnis lifted a sacrifice fly to right to score Livingston and cut the Bulldog lead to 2-1. The Saints drew even with Truman State in the fourth as pinch-hitter
McKenna McCoy drew a walk and moved to second on a stolen base. Ferguson brought McCoy home with a single to right field to put the score at 2-2. Maryville took the lead in the sixth as Livingston ripped a two-run triple to left center to give the Saints a 4-2 lead. The Bulldogs forced Maryville to extra innings for the second time in three games with two runs in the seventh frame to tie the contest at 4-4. After a scoreless eighth inning, Truman State tallied a run in the ninth and held on to gain the doubleheader sweep.
