Springfield, Mo. – The Maryville University softball team needed extra frames in both games of their doubleheader against Drury University to earn a sweep of the Panthers at Thompson Field in Springfield, Mo. The Saints took the first game of the day, 2-1 in eight innings and defeated the Panthers in the nightcap, 3-2 again in eight innings.
Game One:
The Panthers cracked the scoreboard first with a run in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Maryville tied the contest in the third after the Saints loaded the bases,
Kelsey Martin scored as
Shaina Kmetz reached base on an error to make the score 1-1. The game remained tied until the top of the eighth as
Jaclyn Pasakarnis gave the Saints their only lead of the game with her team-high seventh home run of the year to put Maryville out front 2-1.

Game Two:
After a scoreless first inning, the Saints opened the scoring in the second as Callans singled through the left side and advanced to second on a walk. She moved up to third on a fielder's choice and scored on a wild pitch to Maryville a 1-0 lead. The Panthers tied the game with a run of their own in the second to make it a 1-1 game. The Saints briefly regained the lead in the fourth as Pasakarnis smacked a double and scored as Callans lifted a double to right center to give Maryville a 2-1 advantage. Drury answered with a run in the home half of the frame to again tie the contest at 2-2. The two teams once again needed to go to extra innings as the score remained tied at 2-2. The Saints pushed across a run in the top of the eighth as
Hannah Tolley started the frame with a double to right center and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Martin put the Saints on top with an RBI single that scored Tolley to give Maryville a 3-2 edge.
