Pittsburg, Kan. – The Maryville softball team pounded out 22 hits on the afternoon and six home runs, but Pittsburg State used the long ball to gain a split with the Saints Sunday afternoon at the PSU softball Complex in Pittsburg, Kan. Maryville won the first game of the day 11-1 in six innings while the Gorillas took the night cap 7-6.
Game One:
The Saints got things going early as
Jaclyn Pasakarnis singled and moved up to third as Samantha Huasl singled to left field. Pasakarnis scored on an error to give Maryville a 1-0 lead.
Emily Frankenreiter extended the Saints lead in the fourth inning with a three-run blast to stake Maryville to a 4-0 advantage. The Gorillas plated a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Hausl smashed a two-run homer to extend the Maryville lead to 6-1. The offensive outburst continued in the sixth as
Alyssa Callans drilled a two-run double to right field that gave Maryville an 8-1 while
Courtney Ferguson drilled a three-run blast to extend the Saints lead to 11-1.

Game Two:
Pasakarnis got the Saints going in the top of the first with a two-run homer to give Maryville an early 2-0 lead. Maryville added three runs in the second as Frankenreiter hit her second homer of the day over the center field wall. After a
Kelsey Martin walk, Pasakarnis drove her home with a double to extend the Saints lead to 5-0. Callans helped her own cause as she hit her second home run of the year to give Maryville a 6-0 lead in the third frame. The Gorillas plated three runs in the home half of the third inning and a pair of runs in the sixth inning to cut the Maryville lead to 6-5. Pittsburg State earned the split with a walk-off two run homer in the seventh to complete the comeback.
