Softball Saints Earn a Split with No. 24 Saginaw State

St. Louis –  The Maryville softball team smacked 12 hits in the second game of a doubleheader to earn a split with No. 24 ranked Saginaw State University Tuesday evening at Weber Field. The Saints fell in the first game of the day, 6-5 and bounced back with the offensive attack in the night cap to win 8-4 in a game stopped after six innings due to snow.
 
Game One:
The Cardinals opened the scoring with a run in the second and three runs in the third to take a 4-0 advantage over the Saints. Maryville cut into the lead in the fourth as Hannah Tolley and Alyssa Callans opened the frame with back-to-back singles and both scored on a Jaclyn Pasakarnis drilled a ground rule double to center to get the Saints to within two runs at 4-2. Pasakarnis would score on a Courtney Ferguson ground out to make the score 4-3. After putting the Cardinals down in order in the top of the fifth, Shaina Kmetz opened the home half of the inning with a solo blast to knot the game at 4-4. Callans gave the Saints the lead with an RBI single to center field to make the score 5-4, but it did not hold up as the Cardinals scored two runs in the sixth inning to earn the win.

Game Two: 
Maryville got things going in the bottom of the first as Hannah Tolley started a string of three straight singles and scored on a Samantha Hausl single to left to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Sheridon Sprague kept the inning alive with a two-run single to extend the Maryville lead to 3-0. After the Cardinals scored a pair of runs in the top of the third, the Saints loaded the bases and extended the lead on a Courtney Klosinski single to left to give Maryville a 5-2 advantage. Tolley continued to stay hot at the plate with an RBI double in the fourth to extend the Saints lead to 6-3. The Saints scored two more runs in the fifth inning as Tolley and Emily Frankenreiter each had RBI singles to push the Maryville lead to 8-3. The game was stopped in the top of the seventh as a snow squall hit the area and made the field unplayable.
