Alyssa Callans threw a five-hitter in the second game of the day to help the Maryville softball team earn a split with Missouri S&T Sunday afternoon at Weber Field. The Miners limited Maryville to five hits as they took the opener, 5-2, while the Saints battled back in the nightcap to get a 3-1 victory.
Game One:
After a scoreless first stanza, the Miners took the lead with three runs in the second to take an early 3-0 lead. Missouri S&T added a run in the fourth to extend the lead to 4-0, but the Saints answered in the home half of the fifth.
Sheridon Sprague opened the frame with a single and moved to second on a
Emily Frankenreiter single up the middle to put runners at first and second. Sprague came around to score as
Hannah Tolley hit a third straight single to cut the Miner lead to 4-1. The Miners scratched across an insurance run in the top of the seventh to take a 5-1 lead. Maryville pushed across a run in the home half of the seventh as
McKenna McCoy reached base on an error and scored on a groundout to make the score 5-2.

Game Two:
After the Miners opened the scoring with a run in the first frame, the Saints grabbed their first lead of the day in the fourth inning.
Jaclyn Pasakarnis drilled a triple to right center to start the stanza and scored on a
Samantha Hausl single to tie the contest at 1-1.
Courtney Ferguson entered the game to run for Hausl and stole second base and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. She scored on a wild pitch to give Maryville a 2-1 lead. Tolley added an insurance run with an inside-the-park home run in the sixth to extend the advantage to 3-1. The Miners had a chance in the seventh as they opened the frame with a double, but Callans forced a pop out and then a double play to end the game.
