Alyssa Callans broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning of the nightcap with a two-run walk-off homer to help the Maryville softball team in gaining a split with McKendree University Saturday afternoon at Weber Field. The Bearcats took the first game of the day, 5-2 while the Saints battled back from a three-run deficit to win the second game of the day, 5-4 in eight innings.
Game One:
The Saints grabbed an early lead in the first inning as
Kelsey Martin opened the frame with a single and then stole second base.
Bri Livingston gave Maryville the lead with a double to right center that scored Martin and gave the Saints a 1-0 advantage. After a pair of scoreless innings, Maryville added a run in the fourth as
Courtney Ferguson drew a walk and moved up to second on a fielder's choice. Ferguson scored on a Martin bunt single to extend the lead to 2-0. The Bearcats scored a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to tie the contest at 2-2. McKendree pulled away in the top of the seventh with three runs to take a 5-2 lead and held on to take the first game of the day.

Game Two:
The Bearcats grabbed an early 3-0 lead with two runs in the first and a single run in the third frame, but the Saints quickly tied the game in the bottom of the third.
Emily Frankenreiter opened the inning with a single up the middle and moved to second as Ferguson reached base on an error. After Martin loaded the bases on a bunt single, Callans drove in a run on a groundout to cut the lead to 3-1. Ferguson then scored on a wild pitch and Martin came home on another groundout to tie the game at 3-3. The score remained tied until the eighth, with the Bearcats pushing across a run on a sacrifice fly to grab a 4-3 advantage. Callans sent the Saints home with the win on a two-run blast over the left field wall to give Maryville the win and a split on the day.
