Peters One-Hitter Paces Saints in Sweep of William Jewell

Maryville Earns Its First Berth to the GLVC Baseball Championships Since 2013

St. Louis –  Andrew Peters came within three outs of a no-hitter in the nightcap to pace the Maryville baseball team in a sweep of Great Lakes Valley Conference foe, William Jewell College Friday afternoon at Weber Field. The Saints hit three home runs en route to 12-3 victory in the opener while Peters had 10 strikeouts in a 2-1 win over the Cardinals in the second game of the day. With the two wins, Maryville earned its first berth into the GLVC tournament since 2013 next week in Ozark, Mo.

Game One:
The Saints opened the scoring in the second as Dalton Schumer and Connor Markel hit back-to-back home runs to give Maryville a 2-0 lead. The Saints added a pair of runs in the third as Zack Ruckman and Cody Klotz each had RBI singles to extend the lead to 4-0. Louis Niemerg extended the lead with an RBI double and then scored on a wild -pitch to extend the lead to 6-0 after four innings. The offensive explosion continued in the fifth frame as Brennan Williams drilled a two-run double to give the Saints an 8-0 lead. Klotz finished the scoring for Maryville in the home half of the sixth with a grand slam to give the Saints a 12-0 advantage. The Cardinals scored three runs in the seventh inning, but that is a close as they would get.  Alec Harris earned his tenth win of the season going 7.2 innings with six strikeouts as the win clinched a spot in the GLVC post-season tournament.
