Pontus Gitselov scored a pair of goals to lead the Maryville University men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Lindenwood on a rainy night at Hunter Stadium in St. Charles.
What Happened – The Saints opened the scoring early as
Rasmus Tauts stole a pass from the Lions goalkeeper and tallied his first goal of the year from 12-yards out to stake Maryville to a 1-0 lead in the 7
th minute. Giteslov extended the advantage in the 26
th minute as he took a pass from Tauts and scored from 25-yards away to give Maryville a 2-0 lead. Giteslov added an insurance goal in the 63
rd minute as he collected a pass from
Ricardo Andrade and found the goal to push the Saints lead to 3-0.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints outshot the Lindenwood 16-7 and gave up only one shot in the second half.
Christian Kjaersgaard earned his first win of the season with a clean sheet while being credited with three saves.
