Kansas City, Mo. – Rockhurst scored a pair of goals midway through the second half to eliminate the Maryville women's soccer team from the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, 2-0 Sunday afternoon at Bourke Field in Kansas City, Mo.
What Happened – The teams played to even terms in the first 45 minutes of the match with the Hawks holding a 10-5 edge in shots. The Saints had an opportunity in the 24
th minute as
Alex Johnson ripped a shot that rang of the post. The match remained a defensive struggle until the Hawks cracked the scoreboard in the 75
th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Rockhurst added an insurance goal in the 77
th minute to make the score 2-0. Maryville once again had a few chances to score late in the contest, but Johnson pushed a pair of shots just right of the goal.
Inside the Numbers – The Hawks held a 21-12 advantage in shots with 10 of those being on frame. Johnson finished the day with five shots.
Elyse Waterhouse collected eight saves in the match for the Saints.
