Missouri S&T recap
In the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener, the Maryville men's basketball squad lost at Missouri S&T 72-59. The Saints only gave up eight two-point baskets but the Miners drained 16 3-pointers to boost the home team's offense. Maryville's defense in the second half kept the team in the game and forced the Miners into shooting 29.4 percent in the second half.

What Happened
Jalen Gant scored his first points of the season, and
Parker Long sank an early 3-pointer as the Saints grabbed a quick 5-0 lead. The Miners answered with 11 straight to surge ahead.
Chris Williams scored to break the momentum. Another basket by Gant was good as the Saints closed to 15-13. However, Missouri S&T edged back out to a 24-13 cushion.
Kamto Eze threw down a dunk but the Miners stayed ahead and took a 41-26 lead at intermission.

Trailing by 15, the Saints made a push midway through the second half.
Owen Long sank a jumper to start a 6-0 burst.
Parker Long scored on the next possession, and Eze's layup pulled Maryville to within 49-40 at the 11:12 mark. However, the Saints were unable to get any closer as the Miners took the conference opener.
