Missouri S&T recap
Despite a career-high 26 points from
Mary Barton, the Maryville women's basketball team lost its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener at Missouri S&T 76-73. The Saints had a late 3-point attempt misfire that would have forced overtime. Maryville could not overcome the Miners' 52.7 percent shooting percentage. The loss snapped Maryville's three-game winning streak.

What Happened
The Miners took the early lead and were up 16-11 after the first quarter. The Saints chipped away at the deficit and finally took their first lead of the game at 23-21 on a layup by Cici Rindy. Two straight buckets by
Abby Monis were good for a 27-21 edge to cap an 8-0 run at the 3:57 mark. Missouri S&T rallied late in the second to take a 34-31 lead at halftime.

The Saints would not allow the Miners to pull away in the third, and Barton's three-point play drew the Saints to 51-49 entering the final quarter.
Hunter Stidham sank a 3-pointer, and a layup by Monis pushed the Saints up 54-53 with 8:03 to play. Barton drained another trey as Maryville grabbed a 59-58 lead. The Miners answered and tallied seven straight to go up by six points.
Jayda Jansen was fouled and sank two free throws for a 67-65 lead with 2:54 remaining. The score was tied at before Missouri S&T hit two at the line to go up 71-69. Barton made two free throws as Maryville closed to 72-71 with 21 seconds left. The teams traded two points before Barton stole the ball with 10 seconds to play. However, the Saints committed a turnover with 6.0 seconds remaining. The Miners edged back to a 76-73 lead. Maryville shot the 3-pointer that would have forced overtime but the shot bounced off the left side of the rim as the Miners escaped with the win.
