Louisville, Ky. – The University of Indianapolis scored in the latter stages of the first half and was able to hold off a late attack by the Maryville men's soccer team as the Greyhounds defeated the Saints 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2019 NCAA Division II Soccer Championships at Frazier Field in Louisville, Ky.
What Happened – The Greyhounds struck first in the 36
th minute as Ben Rohder scored from 22-yards out after the ball defected off a Saints defender and into the goal to give UIndy a 1-0 lead. The Saints started to push the issue early in the second half as they had a chance to score in the 60
th minute as
Vittorio Sasso saw a header from five yards out hit the crossbar and go out of bounds. Maryville also had two chances late in the contest to even the match, but shots by
Braden Johnson and
Helmut Florencia each went wide of the goal.
Inside the Numbers – The Saints held an 8-7 advantage in shots, but the Greyhounds had a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.
Liam Walraven ended the match with three saves on the afternoon. The 17 wins is the second most in program history.
