Softball Saints Pound Out 31 hits in Split at LMU

Harrogate, Tenn. – The Maryville University softball team pounded out 31 hits and again hit four home runs to earn a split in their doubleheader at Neely Field in Harrogate, Tenn. Sunday. The Saints scored 13 times in the second inning en route to a 17-6 win over Walsh and then saw a late rally fall short as Maryville fell to Lincoln Memorial 12-11.
 
Game One vs Walsh University:
The Saints grabbed the lead early in the contest with four runs in the opening inning of the game as they took advantage of a pair of walks and an error to gain a 4-0 lead. The Cavaliers awnswered with two runs of their own in the home half of the first, but Maryville came right back and scored 13 runs on 12 hits in the second frame. Bri Livingston jump started the inning with an RBI double to extend the lead to 6-2. Then after three straight hits and a hit batter, Shaina Kmetz smashed a grand slam to push the Maryville lead to 12-2. Jordan Michalski finished the scoring in the inning with a three-run blast to put the score at 17-2.

Game Two vs. Lincoln Memorial:
The Railsplitters took control of the game from the onset as LMU grabbed a 7-0 lead after two innings of play, but the Saints used the long ball to get back into the contest as Samantha Hausl ripped a three-run homer to left center to cut the lead to 7-4 in the third. After LMU added four runs in their half of the third, Maryville again used the power game as Kmetz hit her second home run of the afternoon to score three runs that got the Saints closer at 11-7. LMU added a run in the sixth inning, but the Saints continued to rally as they plated three runs in the sixth to make the score 12-10. Maryville scored a run in top of the seventh before loading the bases, but LMU forced a pair of flyout and a strikeout to hold on for the victory.
