Saints Drop a Pair of Games to Open the Alvy Early Classic

Arkadelphia, Ark. – The Maryville University softball team dropped a pair of games on the opening day of the Alvy Early Classic in Arkadelphia, Ark., Friday afternoon. The Saints grabbed an early lead in the opener but could not hold on as they were defeated by Henderson State 6-3. In the nightcap, Maryville was held to only four hits in an 8-0 loss to Arkansas-Monticello.
 
Game One vs Henderson State University:
The Saints grabbed an early lead in the top of the first as Jaclyn Pasakarnis ripped a two-run double off the right field wall to drive in Taylor Shingler and Bri Livingston and give Maryville a 2-0 lead. Shaina Kmetz extended the lead in the second as she smacked her third home run of the year to push the advantage to 3-0. The Reddies evened the contest with a pair of runs in the third and a run in the fourth to knot the game at 3-3. Henderson State took advantage of two errors in the sixth inning to score three runs to take a 6-3 lead and limited the Saints to a hit in the seventh to gain the victory.

Game Two vs. Arkansas-Monticello:
The Blossoms cracked the scoreboard with runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. Maryville had an opportunity in the third frame to push a run across as Emily Frankenreiter singled and moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt. She moved over to third on a flyout and was stranded there on a pop up to the shortstop to end the inning. UAM broke the game open with six runs on five hits in the fifth inning to claim the victory.
