Arkadelphia, Ark. – Senior
Bri Livingston provided the Maryville University softball team with some late inning heroics in the first game of the day to aid the Saints in earning a split on the second day of the Alvy Early Classic in Arkadelphia, Ark., Saturday. Maryville rallied to defeat Northeastern State 7-4 in eight innings in the opener. The Saints nearly rallied again in the nightcap before falling to Southern Arkansas 5-1 at Dee White Field.
Game One vs Northeastern State:
The Saints offense got things started off early as they took advantage of three straight singles as
Jaclyn Pasakarnis was hit by a pitch to bring in a run and
Emily Frankenreiter hit a sacrifice fly to right field to give Maryville a 2-0 advantage. The Riverhawks evened the game at 2-2 in the top of the second frame, but the Saints regained the lead in the fifth as Pasakarnis opened the inning with a single and scored on a
Carly Wilson pinch-hit single to give Maryville a 3-2 lead. Northeastern State retook the lead in the top of the sixth with two RBI singles to earn a 4-3 advantage, but the Saints battled back in the bottom of the seventh as Pasakarnis once again open the inning with a single.
DJ Aaron-Holman tied the game with a two-out double down the right field line to make the score 4-4. After the Riverhawks were held in check in the top of the eighth,
Alyssa Callans singled to start the inning and put runners at the corners. Livingston completed the comeback with a three-run blast over the center field wall to give the Saints a hard-fought victory.

Game Two vs. Southern Arkansas:
The two teams started the game in a pitcher's duel as
Olivia Jarvis and the Muleriders Sydney Wader combined for 10 strike outs over the first two innings. SAU took advantage of three hits and a fielder's choice to take a 4-0 lead in the bottom of third inning. The Muleriders added an insurance run in the sixth as they scored after a Saints throwing error and an RBI single to make the score 5-0. Maryville rallied once again in the seventh inning as Callans singled with Frankenreiter and Wilson each drawing walks to load the bases. Jarvis then hit a one-out single to get Maryville on the scoreboard and cut the SAU lead to 5-1. The Saints uprising came to end with a strikeout that preserved the win for Southern Arkansas.
