Pitching Leads Saints to a Sweep over Lincoln

St. Louis – Alyssa Callans and Olivia Jarvis pitched a pair of outstanding games to pace the Maryville softball team to a sweep of Lincoln University Friday afternoon at Weber Field. Callans tossed a six-hitter in the opener as the Saints defeated the Blue Tigers 12-2 in five innings, while Jarvis hurled a five-hitter in the Maryville 10-1 victory in the nightcap.

Game One:
The Saints opened things up in the bottom of the first inning as Samantha Hausl ripped a grand slam home run over the left center field wall to give Maryville a 4-0 lead. Emily Frankenreiter and Taylor Shingler each added RBI singles to extend the lead to 6-0 after one inning of play. The Blue Tigers cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third, but the Saints plated three runs in the bottom of the frame. Alyssa Callans and DJ Aaron-Holman each doubled and scored while Shingler singled and scored on an error to push the Maryville lead to 9-2. Maryville tacked on three runs in the bottom of the fourth on four hits to earn the opening game victory.
